So you may have already read my in-depth interview with Rebel Wilson on Refinery29 (and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Go read it here!), but there was more to my trip than just ten minutes with the funny woman herself.
Thanks to Torrid & their PR team I flew out to LA for the event, and my home for the night was the super-stylish Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills.
I loved the cheerful decor, cozy room, and convenient proximity to everything.
After relaxing for a bit in my fabulous room, I threw together an outfit and headed out to the party.
My top is by Torrid, leggings from Bisou Bisou, necklace by nOir Jewelry, and booties from ALDO. Many people asked online where I got my boots, but I believe they thought the leather panels on my leggings were actually thigh-high boots. While they’re not, it’s cool that it appears to have that style effect.
When I got to the event it was clear who the woman of the hour was; Rebel’s name emblazoned everything, from wall projections, to the step-and-repeat, to the quasi-pop-up shop that was situated in the center of the room.
Models Philomena Kwao and Georgina Burke were decked out in pieces from the line; Kwao showed off her killer curves in an embellished surplice-neck dress, and Burke mixed things up with a casual star-print t-shirt and a sleek vegan-leather pencil skirt.
Mannequins posed in a variety of Rebel’s designs, surrounded by quotes from the actress. I’m personally obsessed with those moto zippered jeans, they’re totally dope.
More mannequins held their poses all night long, showin’ off the goods.
If this is the Rebelution, I’m into it.
A totally subtle display.
A little bit of “gangsta” koala for you to wear around your neck.
Then, to the surprise of us all, Rebel took to the stage for a quick performance with the California Crooners Club.
She sang, she danced, she cracked a few jokes…
When all the madness calmed down, I finally was able to do my interview. Even though Rebel had been inundated with compliments, hugs, interviews, etc. she still was bright and cheery when we chatted. If you want to read the interview in its entirety, head to Refinery29 and read it now!
The next morning I decided to wander around fancy-schmancy Beverly Hills, so I threw on my brand-spankin-new “gangsta” koala t-shirt that was in the gift duffle bag. (No, like literally, they gave the silver duffle bag as the swag bag).
Having never been to LA or Beverly Hills before, my knowledge of the areas comes exclusively from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and GTA V, so clearly I already knew what to expect – sidewalks paved with diamonds and rose and occasional mass murder sprees by three guys in stolen cars.
I recognized both places ^ and v from GTA V, but I didn’t bother to figure out what buildings they were because I had only a short time to kill before my flight.
Hey look, it’s me being a tourist in front of a fancy-schmancy sign!
I thought this might be the Weirwood tree of BH
Or maybe this one…or both? Either way, it also reminded me of the beautiful banyan trees you can find in Louisiana (my birthplace).
I wandered through the park and snapped a few shots of some really brilliant sculpture. Since it was pretty early in the morning, I was the only person wandering around, so it was relaxing and calm.
Stunningly aggressive floral arrangement — would love to get a bouquet like this!
After an easy flight home I was greeted by a huge box filled with awesome Rebel goodies, like this preppy R bomber jacket and cool athleisure vegan-leather-embellished leggings.
