I got my first bra at age 10.
After gym class, a few girls cornered me in the locker room, laughing at my breasts, taunting me for having “big ol’ titties” and no bra. I spent the rest of the day on the verge of tears, arms crossed over my offending chest.
I went home that night in tears, and begged my mom to take me bra shopping. She being a very busty woman herself, knew my pain all too well. We went to the store, and I came home with a few basic C cup bras.
A C cup at age 10…I was doomed from the start.
Cut to a few years ago – I was working at an online lingerie company and one of the customer service women pulled me aside and begged me to let her properly measure me, as she could tell I was absolutely wearing the wrong size. The size that Victoria’s Secret had told me I was, and I naively accepted for many years.
That day I went from wearing a 40DDD to a 38H and my entire world changed.
But still, too many of the limited options offered to me were at best, bland, and at worst, hideous.
Thankfully, things have actually improved since then, and I have more beautiful and comfortable bra styles than ever before.
Since I began working from home I’ve been practically living in Torrid’s bralettes. I never thought that someone with breasts like mine could rock a wire-free bra, but here I am, doing it on the daily.
I know for many women, the first thing they do when they get home is rip off their chest prisons and strut around free-boobing it. Being that my breasts weigh 10 lbs together (yes, I weighed them…) going completely bra-free becomes uncomfortable and sweaty after a short time.
Enter Torrid’s bralettes, which have completely overhauled my comfort level.
I sleep in them, I relax in them, I wear them running errands, I wear them to events. They’re beautiful, comfortable, and yes, supportive. (Although I would not recommend jogging/high impact workouts in them.)
My love of these bralettes is why I’m thrilled to support Torrid’s latest campaign, #TheseCurves. #TheseCurves is all about celebrating your body by decorating it with beautiful lingerie. There’s just no reason to settle for ugly, bland, basic styles anymore. If this H cup can rock a bralette, you can too!
