In the fashion world we’re always looking for the next big thing. I rounded up a list of the designers that you might not know yet, but you will soon.

Fashion people say the darndest things, don’t they? I was fortunate enough to cover New York Fashion Week this season for the amazing, fashion-forward website, I Like What You’re Wearing. While running around Lincoln Center, Milk Studios, the Piers, and countless other venues, I couldn’t help but put together a list of some of the most fashion-y things I overheard.

Spotted During NYFW

It was disgustingly hot & humid during the first half of NYFW, so finding a light & airy outfit was key to fashion survival. I wore a similar outfit before (different, shirt, bag & shoes) but I felt it was perfect to break out in the heat of Fashion Week. And apparently others liked it as well; I was snapped by several different photogs that day. Here is just one of many to come.
Shirt: Old Navy (Size XXL)
Skirt: ASOS (Size 14)
Sandals: DV (Size 9)
Bag: Urban Outfitters
New York Fashion Week
NYFW starts this week! Technically it starts on Thursday, but my Fashion Week will be starting on Wednesday, with 7 shows, a film premiere, and the Style Awards!
I will be updating my blog frequently with pictures from shows & events, reviews from the shows, backstage footage, and whatever else comes my way that is worth sharing with you all! Keep checking back for updates!
I will also be uploading all of my NYFW images to my flickr account, so while you’ll only see the best of the best on the blog, you can catch up with everything on flickr!
Some of my favorite past NYFW moments:
The actually real wedding at Imitation of Christ

My first experience with Katie Gallagher

My first Betsey Johnson show (right after McQueen passed)

Seeing the androgynous model Andrej Pejic modeling a collection my friend Lauren Rae Levy styled

Watching Zoe Kravitz do a 1920s style dance during the Erickson Beamon ready-to-wear & jewelery presentation

Being at the Betsey Johnson afterparty

The clothes (and shoes) (and presentation) at Sally LaPointe

My first experience with The Blonds

…I could go on forever…

Jad Ghandour Grows Up
My sole memory of the Jad Ghandour show last season is of two adorable tiger cubs that jumped and pounced inside their cages. But the clothes…. wait, what clothes? The cubs were just so cute and funny that I have no memory of anything that was shown on the runway.

And perhaps Ghandour realized this, as this season’s show was allocated to the opulent Cipriani, nary a baby animal in sight. While the awkward double-turn on the runway seemed unnecessary, the clothes were beautiful, so maybe Ghandour wanted to make certain that they would be imprinted on your mind.

Ghandour showed a large collection, touching on everything from edgy Angelina Jolie-esq second-skin leather dresses to beaded bodice flowing brightly-hued gowns that would not look out of place on the most elite red carpets. His fall/winter 2012 collection was inspired by the screen sirens of old Hollywood: Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. Gandour’s interpretation of “old Hollywood” into updated, modern shapes helps prevent the collection from feeling dated and stale, and invites young Hollywood to don his dresses at their next event.

Betsey Johnson’s Fall/Winter 2012 show was a total blast from the Betsey past! With psychedelic prints, acid-hued furs, and pops of neon on classic skirt suits, Betsey reached into her archives and brought out a new twist on old classics. (And of course, what would be a Betsey show without some tu-tu dresses, Lulu in a slinky gown, Cheerleaders and Betsey’s ubiquitous cartwheel!)

I can’t pick which version of this outfit I like the best, and I plan to wear some interpretation of it to the Betsey Johnson show/after party tomorrow night.
I’m going to post three different versions of the outfit, please give me your opinion!
