Last night John and I attended the grand opening of the Renaissance New York Midtown, and what a grand opening it was!
The decor was on point, with warm golden lighting, statement artwork, modernized art deco touches, and gilded accents everywhere.
Music was pumping upstairs as the crowd grew thick. We escaped to a back room where the hotel had set up a photobooth that resembled designer Timo Weiland’s studio, complete with a sewing machine, fabric, and actual designs that Weiland had created. We hopped in and (clearly) had our fun.
Post photo shoot, we slipped through the throng to quench our thirst. Fortunately, we were able to score a delicious cocktail, poured straight from a suitcase, of course.
(Because what opening party doesn’t have a little posh pomp & circumstance?)
I took respite from the growing horde with a cool glass of wine, and enjoyed some passed bites curated by Andrew Zimmern.
The whole vibe of the place was unlike any other Renaissance, or any hotel, I’ve ever been in. It felt more chic club than midtown motel, but maybe that was also due to the fabulous folks who filled the place to the brim.
(Like these two ladies politely pushing Perrier on the people.)
We left before Wyclef performed (too many articles, not enough time), but based on the BFA images from the night, I can only imagine it was equally as fabulous as the rest of the event.
