Jad Ghandour Grows Up

My sole memory of the Jad Ghandour show last season is of two adorable tiger cubs that jumped and pounced inside their cages. But the clothes…. wait, what clothes? The cubs were just so cute and funny that I have no memory of anything that was shown on the runway.

And perhaps Ghandour realized this, as this season’s show was allocated to the opulent Cipriani, nary a baby animal in sight. While the awkward double-turn on the runway seemed unnecessary, the clothes were beautiful, so maybe Ghandour wanted to make certain that they would be imprinted on your mind.

Ghandour showed a large collection, touching on everything from edgy Angelina Jolie-esq second-skin leather dresses to beaded bodice flowing brightly-hued gowns that would not look out of place on the most elite red carpets. His fall/winter 2012 collection was inspired by the screen sirens of old Hollywood: Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. Gandour’s interpretation of “old Hollywood” into updated, modern shapes helps prevent the collection from feeling dated and stale, and invites young Hollywood to don his dresses at their next event.

Charlotte Ronson F/W 2012.

Loved everything- great prints, edgy uses of leather, very modern-day Amelia Earhart. I can’t wait to see how this is translated into her lower-price JC Penny line; you’re going to want every item!

Kimberly Ovitz’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection was filled with strong shapes, asymmetrical hems, thigh-high slits, and beautiful textures.

Ovitz said this season was all about the “warrior”- a woman with power and strength, with a wardrobe to compliment her attitude.

Who wants to attend a real fashion show during NY Fashion week? You must be following me, reblog this (likes don’t count, but feel free to like it anyway) & tell me why I should pick you to come with me.

You must be able to be in NYC on Thursday, February 9th (the show is from 1pm-2pm). No transportation will be given or compensated for. There is no promise you will get backstage or to meet the designer, but there’s a very strong chance of it. I will reveal the designer after the winner is chosen.

I may do more of these, depending on how many plus 1’s or 2’s I get and all…
