(We interrupt your normal plus-size style coverage to bring you a short insight into New York Fashion Week, fall 2013).

In the fashion world we’re always looking for the next big thing. I rounded up a list of the designers that you might not know yet, but you will soon.

Fashion people say the darndest things, don’t they? I was fortunate enough to cover New York Fashion Week this season for the amazing, fashion-forward website, I Like What You’re Wearing. While running around Lincoln Center, Milk Studios, the Piers, and countless other venues, I couldn’t help but put together a list of some of the most fashion-y things I overheard.

Spotted During NYFW

It was disgustingly hot & humid during the first half of NYFW, so finding a light & airy outfit was key to fashion survival. I wore a similar outfit before (different, shirt, bag & shoes) but I felt it was perfect to break out in the heat of Fashion Week. And apparently others liked it as well; I was snapped by several different photogs that day. Here is just one of many to come.

Shirt: Old Navy (Size XXL)

Skirt: ASOS (Size 14)

Sandals: DV (Size 9)

Bag: Urban Outfitters

New York Fashion Week

NYFW starts this week! Technically it starts on Thursday, but my Fashion Week will be starting on Wednesday, with 7 shows, a film premiere, and the Style Awards!

I will be updating my blog frequently with pictures from shows & events, reviews from the shows, backstage footage, and whatever else comes my way that is worth sharing with you all! Keep checking back for updates!

I will also be uploading all of my NYFW images to my flickr account, so while you’ll only see the best of the best on the blog, you can catch up with everything on flickr!

Some of my favorite past NYFW moments:

The actually real wedding at Imitation of Christ

My first experience with Katie Gallagher

My first Betsey Johnson show (right after McQueen passed)

Seeing the androgynous model Andrej Pejic modeling a collection my friend Lauren Rae Levy styled

Watching Zoe Kravitz do a 1920s style dance during the Erickson Beamon ready-to-wear & jewelery presentation

Being at the Betsey Johnson afterparty

The clothes (and shoes) (and presentation) at Sally LaPointe

My first experience with The Blonds

…I could go on forever…

While I adore my super long red hair, my scraggly strands were begging for a freshening up. (Who am I kidding? I was desperately overdue for a hair cut.)

Because of my infrequency of hair cuts I felt that it was time to treat myself & no old Super Cuts would do! So, on a recommendation from a friend I scheduled a session with the by-appointment-only Amalia Moscoso.

Being the steamiest day of summer (thus far), it was so refreshing to stroll into the beautifully colorful boutique salon. A hidden gem, Amalia’s salon is tucked away in an office building at the apex of one of the busiest intersections in Soho.

Amalia was sweetly knowledgeable, informing and not lecturing, regarding color care, hair hydration and other valuable hair tips. I explained what I was looking for, and she set right to work, snipping & slicing, a shower of red feathers flying everywhere.

The results? One of the best hair cuts I’ve had in years. My hair feels extremely healthy (despite the bleaching & dying), has better body and movement to it, and is slightly shorter for summer.

If you’re in NYC and in need of a hair cut, blow out, color or extensions, get thee to Amalia.
