NEW POST: Cat Print on the Cat Walk
I’m sure you saw pictures either on my blog or instagram (thelizblack) from the Isabel Toledo x Lane Bryant runway show, or the follow-up video that gave a glimpse into all of the looks, but you’re finally seeing what I wore to the event! (I know you’ve all been waiting with baited breath).
Too many times I have gone to a brand’s event not wearing anything by said brand; and while this isn’t really an issue, more often than not my photo winds up in some slice of their social media, leading to people assuming I must be wearing their designs. Again, it’s not really a problem, but it does lead to some awkwardness when the brand has to admit that they’re not the brainchild behind the ensemble.
So this time I did things differently; save for my shoes and bag, I wore a Lane Bryant-only outfit. Not only did I feel super sleek and chic in the all black look, I love how vibrant my hair appears next to the noir pallet.
A Jersey girl at heart, my love of animal print has never been hidden from you, so why start now? From my uber-comfy wedges to my super-score Furla bag, I blended in those fierce touches in the least tacky way possible. Rawr.

NEW POST: Boost Your Curvy Quotient With Sonsi!

As plus-size women we all have different levels of confidence regarding our curves. There are those who are uncomfortable with them and try to disappear into the background, those who feel okay with their curves, but want to focus a bit more on streamlining their shape in every outfit, and then there are those women who embrace their curves and are willing to try every trend.

But if you’re uncertain about your style, or your feelings about your size, you should take Sonsi’s Curvy Quotient quiz! Not only is it fun and easy, you can quickly find out what clothing will best speak to your personal style and trend comfort level. I recently took it, and found out that I am “Confidently Curvy.” While I’m not surprised with my results, it was cool seeing what types of clothes best described my curve personality.

I picked out this fabulous high-low leopard print top from City Chic and vegan leather leggings from Lane Bryant. I actually loved this look so much I wore it on my birthday! With the flattering faded leopard print stripes on the front of the shirt, and the surprising leopard on the back, the top makes a style statement, coming and going!

Find out your Curvy Quotient here: Boost Your CQ

Want to enjoy a party without even leaving your home? Then you should check out Sonsi’s #BoostYourCQ curvy conversation Twitter party! If you haven’t attended a party like this before, don’t worry – it’s easy! Just use the hashtag #BoostYourCQ to stay on top of what other tweeters around the world are saying, and hopefully connect with some new friends & learn a thing or two! Sonsi will be throwing a twitter party with tips, tricks & stories all to help you #BoostYourCQ! Plus, they’re giving away over $300 in prizes to some very lucky winners!

So, just join Sonsi’s #BoostYourCQ curvy conversation on Tues. Oct. 15 at 9 pm ET & you could win one of five Sonsi gift cards — more than $300 in prizes total! RSVP for the Sonsi Twitter party here: RSVP

THROWBACK POST: Seeing Spots

I’m just dotty about fashion…

While clashing (while not really clashing) patterns are in right now, I decided to mix similar patterns (a more subtle take on what I did here) for an all over dotty outfit.

The best thing to remember when using patterns- the smaller the print, the smaller those areas will look, the larger the print, the larger those areas will look. So with that in mind, I paired a white and navy tiny polka dot print mini skirt with a white and navy large polka dot sweater. The bow belt helped cinch my waist while simultaneously creating a visual line to divide up the spots, thus enhancing my curves instead of turning me into a beach ball.

And, with the classic blue and white coloring, it was all too easy to slip on some red platform heels (previously seen here) that perfectly matched my hair and lips. Just call me Miz America.

NEW POST: Talk Nerdy To Me
Marching band. Debate team. Literary magazine. JV bowling team. That’s right, you’re looking at a bonafide nerd. And a proud one, at that.
So, it was only natural that the moment I saw this Chewbacca shirt I knew it would be mine. Because, oh yes, I am also a Star Wars fan. (Only the original three, none of this prequel bullshit.)
While I have no problem letting my nerd flag fly high, I decided to temper my nerd-tastic t-shirt and glasses combo with trendy cuffed jeans, my trusty book clutch, and holographic wedges.
But, as always, my best accessory is my English Springer Spaniel, Flynn!

NEW POST: It’s The Crops!

This past Saturday I was invited to a fabulous rooftop brunch hosted by SWAK Designs. With temps in the broiling 90s, I knew I would need an outfit that was both stylish and cool. One of the easiest ways to keep your cool on sizzling summer days is with light, breathable cotton.

Obviously obsessed with these bird-printed ASOS peg pants, it was an easy starting point to base my outfit around. And what better way to funk up high-waisted pants than with a trendy crop top? While the top itself was very basic, it was a great canvas to display my gorgeous new crystal nOir necklace.

Surprisingly, my Schutz sandals were actually comfortable enough for hours of clomping around the city. With their chunky heel, ankle strap and zero platform, I felt well supported while still looking fashionable.

NEW POST: Style While You Work

Sometimes I think I’m part magpie. While it might not be shiny things that catch my fancy (ed. note; oooo, shiny….) I can’t help myself when I see a bright hue, specially one of the neon variety. The more acid, the better.

But, sometimes, it can be hard to pull together an office-appropriate outfit that consists of purely neon shades. The best way to incorporate optical-searing colors into your work outfit is by adding “subtle” touches.

With this outfit I started with a crisp base of white jeans; classic, clean, a perfect blank slate that can be matched with any colors. I paired that with a patterned blue button-down and blue buckle flats, still keeping it “work appropriate.” Then, the fun part.

With my neon orange crystal necklace and my brand new Michael Kors crossbody bag (and my hair, but that’s an always accessory), I added just enough vibrancy, without upsetting the HR department.
