NEW Post: Queen of Hearts

It’s rare to find a frock that fits you like a glove, makes you feel super-girly, and is totally twirl-worthy, but this eShakti dress checks all those boxes and more.

eShakti, for the unfamiliar, is an amazing, affordable and customizable website filled with darling dresses, stunning skirts, terrific tops and more. While the designs are gorgeous on their own, you can custom-fit it to your exact measurements (and often alter the sleeve and skirt length) for only an additional $7.50!

I think this flirty, feminine style pairs perfectly with my sweet heart-shaped glasses, vintage woven purse and girly mary jane pumps, and it will also work perfectly as my bridesmaid dress at my friend’s wedding this weekend!

One of the other amazing things about eShakti is that they offer sizes 0-36W! That’s right, these can-they-possibly-get-even-better dresses just got better, thanks to their inclusive size range!

So what are you waiting for? Go snag one of these stunning styles before I buy them all myself!

Dress: c/o eShakti

Sunglasses: Nasty Gal

Shoes: Stewart Weitzman

NEW POST: Trick or…

So, I’ve never hid the fact that I’m a huge fan of Halloween, but did you know one of my favorite movies is Beetlejuice? Well, if you ever saw my 2012 Halloween post you might have seen a clue…

So when Eloquii so graciously sent me this stunning striped dress, I won’t deny that one of the ways I thought to style it was very obviously Beetlejuice inspired.

I love the shape of this dress, how the stripes nip in the waist, giving a great hourglass silhouette, and have slimming vertical stripes at the sides. The whole dress is an optical illusion, and a fabulous one at that.

To play up the Beetlejuice-ish of it, I slipped on some bug-eye mirrored shades and grabbed my ASOS “Treat” clutch (it’s literally dripping in spookiness). The holographic strappy heels were the perfect finishing touch to my optical-grabbing ensemble.

All I can say is… Day Oh

NEW POST: Eloquii’s Future Is As Bright As My Hair!

So, I’m sure it’s no mystery that I’m a fan of Eloquii. I was before they folded, and even more so once they returned- thanks to a hearty group of employees that saw the potential in the plus brand. Not only am I thrilled about the spirit behind the brand, their designs are obviously elevated from where they once were.

So when they offered to give me a piece or two, you best believe I snatched up this dress. From the flattering fit and the swingy skirt to the abstract print and comfortable fabric, it was clear this dress would be an easy go-to for dressier days and fabulous events.

While they’re sold out of the dress, you can still snag the skirt version here. (But hurry, it’s almost gone too!)

NEW POST: Cat Print on the Cat Walk
I’m sure you saw pictures either on my blog or instagram (thelizblack) from the Isabel Toledo x Lane Bryant runway show, or the follow-up video that gave a glimpse into all of the looks, but you’re finally seeing what I wore to the event! (I know you’ve all been waiting with baited breath).
Too many times I have gone to a brand’s event not wearing anything by said brand; and while this isn’t really an issue, more often than not my photo winds up in some slice of their social media, leading to people assuming I must be wearing their designs. Again, it’s not really a problem, but it does lead to some awkwardness when the brand has to admit that they’re not the brainchild behind the ensemble.
So this time I did things differently; save for my shoes and bag, I wore a Lane Bryant-only outfit. Not only did I feel super sleek and chic in the all black look, I love how vibrant my hair appears next to the noir pallet.
A Jersey girl at heart, my love of animal print has never been hidden from you, so why start now? From my uber-comfy wedges to my super-score Furla bag, I blended in those fierce touches in the least tacky way possible. Rawr.

NEW POST: NYFW Day Two

Day #2 was cold. Well, all of NYFW was cold, and it was cold last Feb and it will be next Feb. Who decided that having fashion week in NYC in FEBRUARY was a good idea? Seriously… in Sept we’re usually sweating (which is never a good look) and in Feb it always snows and we’re freezing and we can’t even wear our super-cute shoes because of all the gross slush. Blerg.

Well, enough of my #fashionpeopleproblems rant… NYFW Day Two was another fun day of running around, seeing shows, and trying my hardest to be comfy and warm while still being stylish.

One of the easiest ways to accomplish that is by wearing Duo boots. I am obsessed with Duo, (I now own 5 pairs), and these over-the-knee studded flat boots were my lifesavers during NYFW. And, of course, they worked perfectly with my equally comfy outfit; stretch leggings, an oversized button-down shirt and my stunning new Simply Be coat. My Mr. T-esq neckpiece and must-have Peter Pilotto x Target sunnies completed the look.

Thankfully, an outfit like this carried me from my first show (9 am, ugh!) to my last party that night (Charlotte Ronson)!

NEW POST: NYFW Day 1

New York Fashion Week (henceforth referred to as NYFW) is a fun, thrilling, beyond exhausting experience. My days are typically 12+ hours, running all over the city, and typically not eating. It’s a quasi-joke in the fashion industry about people not eating, but during fashion week most people live off of Starbucks and adrenaline. (And maybe, if you’re lucky, one of the events will actually have teeny tiny passed hors d’oeuvres you can munch).

One of the biggest mistakes I made in the past was not wearing comfortable shoes. Since I don’t live directly in NYC, and I’m not super rich, I cannot survive in cab-to-curb shoes. Thankfully, I snatched up these Dolce Vita booties right before NYFW started, and practically lived in them during the week.

The coat was a gift from Simply Be (thanks!) and was in rotation with another Simply Be coat (will show up in a future post). The jeans are one of the best pair of jeans I’ve ever worn- and they’re from ASOS! They hug my curves perfectly and so far (even though they’re stretchy) they haven’t stretched out!

I will be posting some of my favorite pictures from my favorite shows I attended (once I narrow them down that is!), and there will be more outfit posts to come as well!
