NEW POST: An Outfit to Tie-Dye For

Maybe it’s my inner hippie, maybe it’s because my mother once wanted to name me “Sunshine” (no, seriously, my name could have been “Sunshine Black”), but whatever the reason I unashamedly adore tie-dye.

Sadly, not everyone has the same fondness for the swirl of shades, and I suppose a big ol’ rainbow of colors can cause some unexpected acid flashbacks, so I think I may have found a solution of how I can rock adult tie-dye.

The secret is in the classic black & white print; by keeping it in such a neutral territory, people are less likely to assume I’m an unwashed Hippie, and more likely to think I’m an unwashed Hipster. (That’s better, right?)

Even though the pants are quite the statement piece, I’ve effortlessly worn them with heels and a blouse at work, sandals and a tank at home, and, as seen in this post, I’ve street-ed them up with chrome wedge sneakers, a spike-shoulder t-shirt, contrast-sleeve jacket, and a jewel & stud encrusted snapback.

NEW POST: I Look Egg-cellent

(Happy belated Easter to those who like punintentional humor)

While we’re not religious, I do visit my in-laws for Easter. For us, it’s just an excuse to go out to eat, and for me, it’s an excuse to dress up a bit.

When most people think of Easter, they think of pastels, but personally I’m not much of a pastel fan. Being that I’m so white I’m practically translucent, pastels always seem to make me look sickly and washed out.

So, I threw on a super-soft high-low jersey dress, and cinched in my waist with a ladylike meets tomboy lace-trimmed denim blouse. The denim is so soft and the unexpected swath of lace along the back is an unexpected accent to the classic denim shirt.

And for me, so much of an outfit is about the accessories. I Eastered up (that’s a thing, right?) my outfit with pearl encrusted sunglasses, summer-esq white espadrille sandals, and a perfectly woven wicker purse- a fresh take on the typical Easter basket.

Black, Out.

This dress makes me want to stand at attention and salute. Something about the high-neck collar, seaming details, and shiny gold buttons on an all black background subtly scream “military” at me. (Subtle screams are a thing, right?)

I don’t remember if it was rainy out, or if I was just having a noir mood day, but I went totally monochrome with my raven-hued ensemble. While I’m a color freak (I do love me some neon), sometimes I love wearing an entirely ebony outfit because it really highlights my flame-colored hair and I feel like a bad-ass cartoon superhero.

Just call me fashion woman! (No, that’s terrible.)

Call me P.S.! I may always be late, but I bring the fashion to people of all sizes and shapes! You too can have confidence and style and look good, thanks to the power of P.S.!

Oh the weather outside is frightful… but this outfit is so delightful…

And comfy. And cozy. And warm.

I will admit that the majority of my outfits are not based in comfy-ness or coziness, but due to the nippy weather I threw all of my outfit guidelines out the window and snuggled up in the biggest, brightest and softest sweater I own.

The distressed torrid stiletto skinny jeans are a recent gift, and they fit into the dressed down/but not dressed down feeling I was going for. Their rips are expertly placed, and they hit at a slightly sexy ankle length. (Remember when a woman’s ankle was considered scandalous? Me either, but I’ve heard such stories…).

I threw on a knit cap to help keep out the chill (I’ve always heard you lose the most heat from your head, but that might just be an old wives tale), and I grabbed my trusty Remi & Emmy snakeskin print hobo bag. This bag is fantastic; not only does the neutral shade go with everything, it’s deceptively large and has been immensely helpful during fashion week.

And I’m mesmerized by my glittery Dolce Vita bow flats; they remind me of a modern version of Dorothy’s ruby slippers. I wonder if I click them together three times if they’ll transport me to a wonderful place filled with warm weather.

They say less is more (I usually feel that more is more, but I digress…), so this is my attempt to experience how less exactly is more… While I pared down my typical piles of bangles and rings, and trekked outside sans shoes (Shoeless! What?), I did accessorize my outfit with *ahem* two big accessories…

So what do you think? Is less really more? Or do you prefer my jumbles of jewels, funky footwear and lotsa layers?

Anonymous asked: I'm infatuated with the dress you're wearing in the June 30th post. Where did you get it?

It’s actually from Forever21 +. It’s a maxi dress in size XL. (Look for it in an upcoming outfit post!)

Hi-Lo there everybody!

I’m a big fan of clothes that can do double-duty, and I’m a strong believer in finding new ways to wear clothing you already own. You can’t afford to get that new short leopard print skirt but you already own a long leopard print skirt? You can make your clothes work for you.

I’ve had this mid-calf length leopard print skirt from Forever21 for a while. I like the subdued color on an otherwise lively print. It elevates the maturity of the skirt without making it matronly. However, a mid-calf length can be difficult to pull off. Not exactly as lengthening as a maxi, and not nearly as showy as a knee-length or mini skirt. Leaving it down gives the outfit a slightly Rockabilly style, and offers more coverage of course for those bad leg days. (We’ve all been there).

Wanting a more youthful, fun & easy look, I raised the hemline by folding the skirt in half and tucking it into the waistband, which I then secured by adding a belt. The jewel-dotted grey t-shirt helps keep the tonal theme going, and it makes my bazungas look awesome.

The shoes were a have-to-have purchase from Marshalls; they were marked way down (only $25) and I feel like I have an update of Dorothy’s ruby red slippers. She may have knocked them together in hopes of getting home… I hope mine bring me to the mall.

I went to the American Rag event at W.I.P. on Tuesday night where I was able to meet their new “It Girl,” Lenay Dunn. With her fresh-faced Midwest looks and sweet, bubbly personality, she was a far cry from the typical “It Girl” that’s plastered all over blogs with scraggly hair, a scowl and last night’s makeup smeared on her face. Lenay offered a charming and unjaded take on her thoughts about American Rag, Macy’s, fashion and music.

“Well, I’m American Rag’s new It Girl! It was cool,” she continued, “Macy’s reached out to me and said ‘We love the way you dress, the way you style yourself, we know you’re into music and fashion and we think you’d be great to represent our brand!’ And I was like wow thanks! Like, of course! It’s a partnership made in heaven, I love it!”

Not only will Lenay wear American Rag on her MTV show, 10 on Top, she will also be clad in American Rag as she reports from various shows and events this summer, such as Bamboozle, SXSW and Warped Tour. She will also be blogging for Raggedmag.com, the online American Rag Magazine.

P.S. American Rag also has a plus size line, American Rag Plus (which is where my awesome colored jeans are from!), that is available in Macy’s stores and online at: American Rag Plus

Lenay is wearing all American Rag.

I’m wearing:

Jeans: American Rag Plus

Top: Necessary Clothing

Shoes: Steve Madden

Belt: Target

Necklace: Forever21

Ring: Noir
